Ecommerce-More Than a Pretty Face!

Now that almost everybody has their website online, the levels of competition are much higher!

One way to stand out is by the design and complexity of your site. People can tell the difference between a high quality and low quality site even if they don’t know the first thing about web designing. Just think of the major brands that we shop at. One way or another we’ve came across amazon.com, or target.com, Macy’s, Wal-Mart, etc. These sites are obviously professionally designed so we are first exposed to well designed sites and trust to shop at sites that are well designed.

You don’t have to pay an arm and a leg for a professional design, but you should be prepared to pay a couple hundred dollars. Do your research in selecting a web designer and make sure you find out what their packages include. If you want them to design your site from scratch, find out how many mockups and revisions they allow. If they only do one mock up, basically what they present to you the first time is what you’re stuck with unless you pay them more money!

Make sure that the designer is familiar with ecommerce designs. It’s not as simple as a pretty layout! Ecommerce sites have a lot of behind the scenes aspects to their layout. The main objective of an ecommerce site is to increase sales and a web designers job is to create something that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and user friendly.

Remember that your website is an investment….take the time and the money to develop a professional well designed website that you can be proud of!
