Tell us about your business:
BCB Staffing, LLC is a virtual assistant staffing firm. We assist small businesses with their social media campaigns. Our company’s goal is to make social media services available to all businesses no matter their budget. We can create and manage profiles on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. We also use WordPress to create blogs and websites. Often new businesses are unable to create a website right away due to the high costs of graphic designers. Our use of the WordPress software enables us to complete projects at a fraction of the price that a graphic designer would charge. We look forward to helping new businesses grow using social media.
What inspired you to start your business?
My husband is active duty military. I have found that it is extremely hard to keep finding jobs when I am moving almost every year. So I decided to start my own business. My favorite jobs have been when I have worked in offices as an office administrator and as a receptionist. When I read about virtual assistants online, I realized that it was the perfect business for me to start. Then I asked my sister to join in the business with me because I know that she is very driven and would be a great addition to my business. She has experience managing a Fortune 500 company which can come into great use in the future.
What has been the biggest challenge in your business and how have you dealt with it?
Our biggest challenge has been finding clients. The way we are dealing with it is to do things that are outside of our comfort zone. We are going to more networking events and telling everyone we meet about our business in an effort to expand our client base.
What would you say has contributed to your business success?
I think what has contributed to our business success is our faith in having this business succeed. We both believe that if you believe something is possible, then it will happen. Because if you believe in
something, you will take the steps to make it happen.
What advice would you like to offer to other women/moms who are thinking about starting a business?
When I decided to start this business, I actually interviewed a successful VA to learn from her experience. A piece of advice she gave me was to make sure that I had all my ducks in a row before starting to work with clients. There is nothing worse than billing time comes and you realize you don’t actually have a process for billing your clients.
What is your favorite tool/resources you use for your business andwhy?
My favorite tool at the moment is Digsby. It is a messenger application that I can use to track all of my e-mail addresses. I can see any time an e-mail comes and also I can receive messages from people using various other messenger applications. I can also mark messages as read straight from the application so I never have to open my e-mail, especially for the messages that I don’t really need to read.
Share one business goal you have for your business:
My one business goal is to have enough clients by the end of the year so that me and my sister can consistently rely on the income.
