Tell us about your business:
Animal Matters is a company dedicated to teaching children how their everyday choices can affect the lives of animals.
What inspired you to start your business?
I wanted to find a way to teach children early on about being kind toanimals and the importance of spaying/neutering and adoption. I later decided to add in healthy eating habits as I became more aware of the tremendous health problems children are facing today.
What has been the biggest challenge in your business and how have you dealt with it?
I would say the biggest challenge (besides production costs) is keeping my product “Made in the USA” and still being competitive price
wise. I deal with it by holding my ground and knowing it’s the right thing to do.
What would you say has contributed to your business success?
Not to be repetitive but I think having it made in the US has helped greatly. People really appreciate that. Also, the game is highlygreatly. People really appreciate that. Also, the game is highly educational but still fun and parents like that.
What advice would you like to offer to other women/moms who are thinking about starting a business?
Plan ahead, try to have some way to earn income even if it’s part time while you start up and listen to your heart!
What has been the most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur?
Time with my daughter and flexibility.
What is your favorite tool/resources you use for your business and why?
The internet, it is an amazing resource for potential vendors.
How do you manage your personal and business activities?
I juggle A LOT but I like being able to work all hours and play when Iwant to.
Looking back, is there anything you wish you’d done differently?
Yes, I would have worried less.
