Tell us about your business:
Sunrise Events and Errands in an event and wedding planning service. I also run errands and do personal shopping. The weddings I plan vary insize, budget and I serve couples from all walks of life. I run errands
for those who are short on time, elderly and shut-in. If an elderly client is on a budget than I end up donating my services. The business is a sole proprietorship.

What inspired you to start your business?
I was out running errands of my own and I saw an elderly woman who needed help with getting gas and I decided to start the errand. I was also still at my 9-to-5 job and looking to make extra money. So Istarted thinking of what I’d like to do and I’ve always wanted to own my own business. I’d planned successful events in the past and started doing my research and I prayed about it. As I was about to get my DBA, one of my closest friends called and told me she was engaged. She asked if I would help plan her wedding, and the rest is history.

What has been the biggest challenge in your business and how have you dealt with it?
I have to say the financial aspect of it has been rough. I thought about throwing in the towel more than once. Everytime that happens I book clients and word of mouth spreads. It’s still not always easy financially, but the business is growing and I’m excited about that.

What would you say has contributed to your business success?
I don’t give up easily. This is my dream and I believe in helpingpeople and giving them the best for their money. I love what I do and it’s what I want to keep doing. I put God first in it all and He alwayscomes through.

What advice would you like to offer to other women/moms who are thinking about starting a business?
Do your homework. Make a solid business plan. Network, network, network. Give your customers the deserve you want from other businesses. Don’t give up on your dreams so easily.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of being an entrepreneur?
I’m able to help people. My son is seeing me set goals and work towards them.

What is your favorite tool/resources you use for your business and why?
I enjoy social media because it’s interactive.

How do you manage your personal and business activities?
I set my priorities daily, weekly, monthly. As much as I love my business, my family will always come first. I set my business priorities after that.

Looking back, is there anything you wish you’d done differently?
I wish I would have made a solid business plan right off the bat instead of waiting.
