Tell us about your business:
Mompreneur Gallery started as a local meetup group in Southern New Jersey for women in business. In December 2010, we launched a website and became an online community with nationwide power to meet phenomenal women who are independent and small business owners, who work from, away or at home. We are a vibrant, passionate community of women who create connections on multiple dimensions (personal, professional and business) throughout our life stages. We vow to support the businesses within the group by encouraging one another, sharing wealth of business information and ideas, participating in group sponsored teleconferences/seminars/motivational speakers (related to topics on how to boost our businesses) and most importantly, are serious about having financial freedom and flexibility with how and when we work!
Our environment is an atmosphere of encouragement and support to empower members to succeed based on their own personal definition of success and support the “whole woman”.
What inspired you to start your business?
I have been in direct sales since 2005 and started on a team that was not local to me. It was challenging to learn the basics of the business and often times, I learned through online resources and books. I started Mompreneur Gallery as a way to eliminate the goose hunt for valuable, business changing information. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars over the years to learn how to effectively work my business and I wanted to share that with other women “moving on up” to financial freedom!
What has been the biggest challenge in your business and how have you dealt with it?
The biggest challenge in my business was to get it launched!! I wanted everything to be perfect so I spent a lot of time researching the “right way”. I realized at some point that it wasn’t about getting it right. It was about getting it going. I deal with this challenge by having a outline and plan for the year – on the local meetup topics and topics of blog postings, but I allow myself to be flexible and open to feedback from our members.
What would you say has contributed to your business success?
A great network of friends and family…people who believe in me and what I have to offer. Most importantly, my desire to genuinely help people. I am very passionate about helping other business people succeed. I wish I had someone to stop me from making all the mistakes and losing all the money that I did over the years and I want to help someone reach the level of success faster than I did!
What advice would you like to offer to other women/moms who are thinking about starting a business?
It’s not always a walk in the park but it’s definitely all worth it!
What is your favorite tool/resources you use for your business and why?
My favorite tools and resources are the members of Mompreneur Gallery. We are such a diverse community that I hardly ever have the need to go outside the group for my business and personal needs.
